DASCO will sponsor one of the living areas within an apartment at the Property Industry Foundation’s flagship development Haven House South Dowling, providing a safe space for vulnerable young people to rebuild their lives.
Currently in development with the backing of Homes NSW, City of Sydney, Goodman Foundation and over 20+ construction and building partners, Haven House South Dowling offers 19-bedrooms to homeless and at-risk young people with no-where else to go. Frontline Partners, The Salvation Army will deliver specialist services designed to grow the resident’s independence and life skills. We talked to Serafina Badaoui, DASCO Marketing Executive, about their contribution.
Why did DASCO want to support Haven House South Dowling?
DASCO believes that the building industry has a vital role to play in shaping stronger, more inclusive communities – not just through construction, but through connection and contribution. Supporting Haven House South Dowling was a natural choice. We were drawn to the long-term impact this development will have, not only in providing safe housing but also in helping these young people build the confidence and life skills they need to thrive.

How did this project align with DASCO’s values and CSR goals?
We are committed to contributing beyond the job site and believe in partnerships that create real and lasting change. Our CSR approach centres on supporting initiatives that deliver social value, evident in our longstanding charity support and volunteer work. A DASCO project prioritises community wellbeing, and we are proud to align with a project that provides this holistic support.

How do you think the 19 bedrooms and ongoing support provided through this development will address youth homelessness in inner Sydney?
Haven House South Dowling is a foundation for change. With 19 beds and support services, the development gives young people a chance to rebuild and regain control of their future. By offering accommodation alongside pathways to education, employment, and independent living, this initiative directly tackles the cycle of youth homelessness. We believe it will have a lasting ripple effect for the individuals who live there.
What did you feel was unique and valuable about the project?
The project’s collaborative model demonstrates a united front in addressing youth homelessness. Its location in Sydney’s inner city ensures accessibility to essential services, education, and employment opportunities, making it a holistic solution for young individuals.
How does the South Dowling project demonstrate the impact of collaboration within the industry?
The project exemplifies the power of industry collaboration. By pooling resources, expertise, and networks, diverse donors within the property and construction sectors have come together to create a meaningful impact. This collective effort amplifies the project’s reach and sets a precedent for how industry players can unite for social good. We are proud to align our value of Partnership with this initiative.

This development will provide a secure home for at-risk youth but also access to education, employment and independent living skills – why is this wraparound support essential for breaking the cycle of homelessness?
Providing housing is a critical first step, but without additional support, many young people struggle to maintain stability. Haven House South Dowling providing education, employment training, and life skills equips individuals with the tools they need to thrive independently. This comprehensive approach is a catalyst for long-term success and fosters resilience in these young people.
