A fresh renovation for The Boys and Girls Brigade
Taylor Construction will take the lead on the renovation of an inner-city youth homelessness centre that works with vulnerable youth and their families.
The Boys and Girls Brigade cares for children, youth and their families that are under pressure for financial and other reasons. Its ethos is to create a safe space for youth at risk that enables them to learn life skills that will position them to thrive.
COVID-19 has put its services under significant pressure. CEO Stefan Lamour-Jansson said: “We have also had a sharp increase in enrolments into our programs as more people are affected by the loss of income, with food security a major stressor.”
“We are delighted that PIF and Taylor have so kindly agreed to undertake a renovation of our office space” he continued. “By transforming this space into an open and flexible space, we are also able to look to the future, whereby the office will be converted into additional programming rooms for our families, thereby expanding the support we can offer to the local vulnerable community.”
The Boys and Girls Brigade had approached PIF earlier this year to see if it could help with redesigning its cramped workplace so that counsellors and outreach workers could be more effective. It’s the kind of challenge that PIF lives for. “We visited its centre in Surrey Hills and it was clear that they were working in quite challenging conditions,” recalls PIF CEO, Kate Mills. “It’s great that we’ve been able to get such a good response from the industry and that Turner and Taylor were able to immediately step up.”
PIF worked through its network to find Turner Architects to help with design and Taylor Construction has stepped up to take the lead on the renovation.
