The Property Industry Foundation rallies industry to future-proof a home changing young lives

The Property Industry Foundation has announced the refurbishment of Haven House Heathmont, a key home managed by Lighthouse Foundation in Melbourne’s outer eastern suburbs. Project partners will gather on-site on 22 April to mark the official start of construction.

Since 2010, Haven House Heathmont has provided safe, stable housing for children and young people experiencing homelessness and trauma. Delivered in partnership with Lighthouse Foundation, the home reflects a long-standing collaboration focused on combining therapeutic care with safe, secure housing.

Between 2019 and 2024, the home supported 35 young people, offering not just a place to stay but a nurturing environment where they could build confidence, develop life skills, and experience a sense of belonging.

Fifteen years after its original transformation, the home now requires critical upgrades to its kitchen, bathrooms, and interior spaces to ensure it can continue delivering high-quality care. The refurbishment will be delivered in collaboration with building partner Kane Constructions and project manager Growthpoint Properties Australia, bringing together expertise from across the property and construction industry.

For Lighthouse Foundation, the impact of homes like Heathmont extends far beyond the physical space, with the organisation describing it as “more than just a home, it’s a place where young people who have experienced homelessness and trauma can feel safe, valued, and supported.”

The Property Industry Foundation is the driving force behind this refurbishment, connecting industry capability with community need to make projects like this possible. As Priscilla Heathwood, State Manager VIC, Property Industry Foundation, explains, the project demonstrates the power of collaboration: “The collaboration with Lighthouse Foundation, Growthpoint Properties Australia and Kane Constructions is a textbook example of how the Property Industry Foundation brings the property and construction industry together to deliver tangible social impact.”

The Haven House Heathmont project is made possible through the generous support of our pro bono partners and the valuable services they provide. On 22 April, project partners will come together on-site to kick off construction, a milestone moment that marks the start of transforming Haven House back into a place of safety, support, and opportunity for young people who need it most.
