Salta Properties has had an unprecedented level of interest in this year’s Melbourne Tour de PIF, with more riders and first timers taking part than ever before. Currently sitting first on our fundraising leaderboard, Team Salta are on track to surpass their $10,000 goal. We talked to team member and Salta Project Manager Chris Watson about how the group has come together to support homeless youth.

Salta Properties is currently in first place in team fundraising for Melbourne Tour de PIF – what’s been your secret so far?

After several successful years of fundraising by Team Salta, this year we’ve had a record level of interest in participating in the Melbourne Tour de PIF, including many first-timers! More people means more donations and we couldn’t be happier with our fundraising progress so far.

As a team, we’d love to exceed our fundraising target of $10k. Our event goal this year was to rally as many Salta cycling enthusiasts as we could to get peddling. Our team this year is made up of riders of all abilities, from champion athletes to classic weekend warriors.

Why did you want to be part of this year’s event?

Salta looks forward to the Tour de PIF every year. It’s one of the primary fundraising events that we participate in as a business, supporting an excellent cause. Throw in a physical challenge, incredible scenery and a fun vibe – there’s plenty to be excited about. And with a bit of luck my raffle ticket is getting pulled this year!

What do you enjoy most about the Melbourne Tour de PIF?

The Yarra Valley is the perfect location for the Tour. Fantastic scenery, rolling hills, and generally quiet roads make it a great place to ride. One of the most attractive aspects of the event is the ability to choose your distance – 30, 50 or 70km. This allows a far greater level of participation, which has certainly helped grow our team! It’s always motivating to see someone stepping up to a longer distance after conquering a shorter course the year before. This will be my third Tour de PIF. Dare I say we have been incredibly lucky with the weather the past few years, so we’re hoping that is going to continue … touch wood!

What training are your team doing in the lead-up?

The SCC (Salta Cycling Club) get out for rides year-round on Tuesdays and Thursdays, alternating between Beach Road and Yarra Boulevard. It can be a little tough to drag yourself out in the height of winter, but the turnout is increasing as the sun starts to shine! These rides are pretty casual – if you find yourself without a training buddy, you’re always welcome to join us for a pedal.

Why does Salta feel it’s important to support the Property Industry Foundation?

As a property company, we recognise the vital role the built environment plays in shaping lives and communities. The Property Industry Foundation’s mission to build homes for homeless youth aligns perfectly with our values. By participating in this event and supporting the Foundation, we’re able to contribute meaningfully to this cause and help address youth homelessness in a tangible, impactful way.
