Bands are getting their axes and drum kits ready for Construction Rocks – the industry’s battle of the bands. Join us at Sydney’s Oxford Arts Factory on 1 August to watch your co-workers and colleagues unleash their inner rock gods, jazz cats and pop stars.
The Xavier Knights
Last year’s winners are hoping to back up this year, turning up the volume on alt rock covers from the likes of Coldplay and Franz Ferdinand. “The Xavier Knights are enthusiastic about supporting the Property Industry Foundation in their admirable pursuit of addressing youth homelessness,” says bandmember Ali Akel. “The heart of our band, Jimmy, leads the band charging forward with his qualifications of being the only actual musician in the group. Making the leap from carpool karaoke to stage singing is Terry, our jack of all trades and master of none. Martin and Lucas close out the ranks as the most novice yet most eager of the band.”
The Windjammers
The Windjammers promise to bring the rock to Construction Rocks. “Since receiving Guns N’ Roses Appetite for Destruction on my 8th birthday, rock n’ roll has been in my heart,’ says lead vocalist and guitarist Mitch McLennan. “Playing guitar and live music are a thirst that must be quenched daily, which is super easy being co-owner of a live music small bar.” The Windjammers will make sure their set leaves the audience thrashing in the mosh pit. “Centered around a mutual love of skinny black jeans, and rock n’ roll in all its genres, The Windjammers have seen many members come and go, one thing has been unshakable – it’s loud and it rocks! PPE is optional but your ears will ring come morning.”
Create Havoc
This eclectic group of industry professionals say they have a common purpose…to Create Havoc! An Equator Principles x Create Havoc collaboration – these rockers are playing to win. “Equator Principles are finance and property professionals by day, playing rock covers from the 80-90’s to now, across venues across Sydney,” says a bandmember. “We’re keen to donate time to worthy causes and helping to raise funds. We’ve raised more than $150K to date!”
Create Havoc are ready to battle it out for the industry’s top band. “Spreadsheet junkies by day and creating havoc on the dance floor by night, Create Havoc are a recently formed group looking to push boundaries and make the world a better place.”
AUR Rock On
Expect the unexpected with AU Rock On, from Aurecon Group, who have serious cred in their line-up of musos. “We are an eclectic mixtape, a band that’s like a musical potluck,” the band say. “Imagine if a jazz saxophonist, a pop-loving keyboardist, a rock guitarist, and a choir-trained vocalist all decided to jam together. That’s our crew! From classic rock to britpop, we’ve got it all covered.”
MoTTown
MoTTown from from Mott MacDonald are back for a second year, after having a blast on stage in 2023. “MoTTown are one big happy family with an eclectic mix of pop, folk, jazz, rock and metal lovers all fighting over what genre of music to play and which song gives them the most individual spotlight,” says bandmember Stephen Giblett.
Sounds Like a Plan
These four rock legends describe themselves as “hard rocking construction specialists”. On lead vocals and guitar is “the real deal” Adam Glavas, backed up by John Nicita “an animal on guitar”, John Montibeler who can “slap that bass” and Adrian Dolmio, billed as “Big Bad and Beautiful. They don’t call him Mr Beats for nothing.”
Off the CHarts
Off the CHarts, from Charter Hall are back with a killer set that combines classics with new chart hits. Last year’s top fundraisers have already smashed their 10K goal and are way out in front with over 13K raised so far. We can’t wait to see what they bring to the stage this year!
