Getting to know the residents of our Haven Houses…

After her loving family made the heartbreaking decision that they couldn’t meet her support needs, Erin* joined Haven House Orange in the Central Tablelands region of New South Wales. Diagnosed with Autism and PTSD, Erin initially found it difficult to adapt to unfamiliar surroundings and desperately missed her friends and family.

Through the stability of a safe and welcoming home and the Marist180 Therapeutic Supported Independent Living program, Erin was able to find joy, community and purpose. She was selected to take part in a scholarship program at Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo and her experiences and achievements in working with zoo animals helped foster stronger connections, self-confidence and pride.

At the end of the scholarship program, Erin joined a local specialised support school, working towards completing Year 10 with assistance and encouragement from her school network and the dedicated Marist180 care team. “Erin’s journey is a testament to her strength and determination, showing how the right support and personal perseverance can empower young people to thrive, even in the face of adversity,” says the Marist180 team.
