”“Our teams take immense pride in building homes for those in need, consistently reporting a heightened sense of purpose and deeper job satisfaction when working on Foundation projects.”

After joining the Haven House Logan project in Queensland as the Building Partner, McNab wanted to offer ongoing, systemic support towards the Property Industry Foundation’s work in housing and supporting home youth. The construction and property group recently signed on as Platinum Partners and are looking forward to helping build life-changing homes for young people in need. We talked to Mark Jewell, McNab’s General Manager – Key Accounts about how the partnership came about.
How did McNab come to know of the Foundation?
McNab have been aware of the Property Industry Foundation for many years and have attended fundraising events, including the wildly fun annual Charity Regatta. McNab recently completed the construction of Haven House Logan (Jinndii Waijung), a transitional housing to offer a safe haven for vulnerable young mothers aged 18-24 years and their children in the Logan area. Jinndii Waijung was brought about through the Foundation partnership with The Lady Musgrave Trust and this project was the catalyst for us becoming more systematic about our support of the Property Industry Foundation.

Why has McNab made a commitment to supporting homeless and at-risk youth in QLD?
At McNab, we recognise that our vertically integrated operations, spanning property development, construction, material supply and subcontracting, have a significant impact on the lives of many within our community. While it may be considered uncommon in the property and construction sector, a core element of McNab’s long-standing culture is our commitment to genuine care.
This guiding value has naturally aligned us with like-minded organisations, including Community Housing Providers and the Property Industry Foundation. Currently, the McNab Group has nearly 1,000 social and affordable homes in various stages of design and construction, a number we expect will continue to grow. Our teams take immense pride in building homes for those in need, consistently reporting a heightened sense of purpose and deeper job satisfaction when working on Foundation projects and social housing initiatives.
What other Property Industry Foundation events and initiatives will McNab be involved in?
The Brisbane Charity Regatta has always been a standout – it’s hard to go past the fun and indulgence of sailing around the Moreton Bay on a Friday afternoon, perhaps with a beverage in hand! McNab also has many Lycra clad warriors that like to take up cycling challenges, such as Pedal for Homeless Youth in Queen St Mall on 24 July.

Why is it important that the property and construction industry gets involved with ending youth homelessness by sharing their skills and resources?
Given that 37% of homeless individuals in Australia are under 25, the industry has a social responsibility to utilise its capabilities to address this pressing issue. By actively participating in solutions to youth homelessness, the property and construction sector demonstrates its commitment to building not just structures, but also stronger, more inclusive communities. McNab are really excited to be supporting the Foundation in a more systematic way.
