Adele Friedman
State Sales Manager – Milliken QLD
Event Volunteer & Product Partner

You might have heard Adele cheering as you gasped for breath in Queen Street Mall at Pedal for Homeless Youth, listened to her raise awareness for the Foundation during corporate presentations, or seen her lending a hand at a fundraising event. Her bright smile and enthusiasm for giving homeless youth a brighter future are contagious.

An illuminating talk about youth homelessness and Foundation building projects by CEO Kate Mills was Adele’s first introduction to what we do, and she was all in. “In 2021, I joined Milliken and watched Kate Mills talk about the serious issue of youth homelessness. As an individual I wanted to know how I could get involved and make a difference and ever since I have volunteered whenever I could.”
Milliken, a design leader in commercial flooring, is a long-term supporter of the Foundation – in 2022, they signed a three-year product partnership, donating a percentage of sales to the Property Industry Foundation. Milliken also continues to donate its flooring products to Haven Houses.
Adele has been the face of Millikin’s support – showing up when we needed hands at events like the Brisbane Charity Regatta. “After my first volunteer event I realised you may feel small compared to the huge issue of youth homelessness but that you can make a difference. When we all come together as a team from the building industry with one goal, we are powerful.”
It’s important to Adele to make sure homeless and marginalised young people are given recognition and support. “By volunteering, I hope that young people experiencing homelessness feel that they are seen, they matter, and they are part of our community; we all want a sense of belonging. And as a volunteer, I remember that one person can make a difference … everyone can make a difference. My experience with the Foundation reminds me of one of my favourite quotes from Dalai Lama XIV: ‘If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito’.”
