Getting to know the residents of our Haven Houses…

Millie* joined Haven House Toongabbie in Sydney’s Western suburbs feeling like she would never find a place to belong. Having struggled with socialising and shared living at a previous youth residential service, Millie needed extra support and a safe, healing space to set small, achievable goals for the future.

While living at Haven House Toongabbie, Millie become part of Marist180’s Therapeutic Supported Independent Living program. Regular house meetings brought Millie more stability and routine; a safe space to express their feelings. Millie began to trust their four housemates and get on top of their mental health needs.

Over time, Millie felt confident to manage their own meds and take part in house activities – from daily chores, to planning meals and outings. Through resilience and consistent support from Marist180’s team, Millie graduated from high school, earning a Record of School Achievement (ROSA). Their hard work and determination led to an internship at a law firm, where they’re now working towards becoming a paralegal.

“Millie’s journey highlights the power of support, resilience, and personal growth; demonstrating what’s possible when young people are given the right tools and encouragement to thrive.” – Marist180
