Homelessness Week 2024 runs from August 5-11, providing an opportunity to reflect on the thousands of young Australians without a safe place to live.
The theme for Homelessness Week 2024 is “Homelessness Action Now”. The Property Industry Foundation, in partnership with the construction and property industry, continues to act against youth homelessness in Australia through our Haven Project building programs and funding initiatives that lead to systemic change.
This week, our supporters from Sekisui House in NSW take on a Working Bee for the Salvation Army (Oasis) on 7 August, joining dozens of industry working bees that have already taken place this year; providing maintenance to our Haven Houses, making a house a home and participating in community outreach programs. We are grateful to our industry volunteers for their passion and commitment to the cause.
In Queensland, HomeZone Projects has poured the slab for Haven House Kingaroy. This crucial project offers transitional housing for at-risk young people in the South Burnett region. The modern 2 x 2-bedroom duplexes will provide support and safety while residents find their feet and secure more permanent accommodation.
“I’m immensely proud of the partnership between the Property Industry Foundation and South Burnett CTC, which has culminated in the establishment of Haven House Kingaroy,” said Jason Erbacher, CEO, South Burnett CTC. “By providing transitional housing and a holistic support team, we’re empowering young people to overcome challenges and strive towards brighter futures. This initiative reflects our dedication to building stronger, more resilient communities.”
In Victoria, Haven House Shepparton (The Nest) is well underway. In a partnership between the Property Industry Foundation, the Women’s Property Initiatives and The Bridge Youth Services the project will provide 3 x two-bedroom homes where young mums up to 25 years old can live independently with their child or children and plan a more secure future for their family.
The project is being built by our partners at Modular Spaces, with pro bono management from Gallagher Jeffs. “The Nest project directly tackles a crucial social issue by providing safe, stable housing for vulnerable young mothers. This kind of support is essential for fostering healthier and more secure environments for these families, leading to better outcomes for both the mothers and their children,” says Tim d’Antoine, Director, Gallagher Jeffs. “On a personal and professional level, offering pro bono services to such a meaningful cause is immensely rewarding. It provides a sense of purpose and fulfillment, knowing that our skills are making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
Make a difference during Homelessness Week 2024 by donating to secure the futures of at-risk young people.
