In 2023, Tynans were our Pedal for Homeless Youth leaderboard champions, raising $5,316 for the Foundation at the cycling challenge in Brisbane’s Queen St Mall. At this year’s event on 25 July, Tynans want to go one better and smash their $5500 fundraising target with a bigger team and continued support from their generous sponsors.
“Pedal for Homeless Youth is an opportunity to do a fun, physical corporate challenge that easily accommodates varying levels of fitness. So, the decision for our team to return for the 2024 ride was an easy one,” says Max Barker, Tynans Senior Paraplanner. “Our team were very grateful for the generosity of our sponsors in 2023, many of whom are whipping out their credit card for us again this year. We would love to exceed what we raised last year and will keep going out to our network to ask for support. Our goal is to crack $5,500 and we’re getting close!”

“The Foundation put on a well organised event which is a lot of fun for us to participate in,” says Max. “Last year, lots of people from our office who weren’t riding came down and formed a cheer squad. We are fielding a larger team this year and are proud to say that we have representation across all different roles, genders and ages within our office.”
Tynans encourages the Queensland property and construction industry to join them in pedalling for homeless youth, regardless of previous cycling experience. “Our training isn’t as coordinated and disciplined as our approach to fundraising!” Max jokes. “A couple of us are regular cyclists, which helps. Those who aren’t regular cyclists, make up for it with determination to get through a personal challenge. Also, with the end of the financial year being a busy and productive time for us, you could say we have had a lot of team “nutrition” in our office.”
The most important goal for participants is giving a secure home to a young person who desperately needs it. “Good housing is foundational to prosperity throughout life,” says Max. “If we can partner with the Foundation in its efforts to provide more roofs over heads, we are glad to contribute. We hope that vulnerable young people served by this great cause can leverage that assistance to build rewarding lives.”
