Over 330 people in nearly 40 teams braved the rain and cold conditions to walk, run, cycle AND raise much-needed funds for homeless youth out at Scheyville National Park, Sydney.
It was a little bit more than light rain on the day, but that did not stop everyone from beating the clock in cycling and running. Check your time here.
The cycling was epic, particularly the 100km route as they went along the Hawkesbury River and turned around just before Wiseman’s Ferry, equating to over 3 hours in the saddle!. The 60km route was just as tough for some as it went inland past Cattai and turned around near Sackville North. Both included a Hill challenge that crowned a Queen and King of the Mountain. All said it was a challenging but fun day on the bike.
Walking on Sunshine
The run and walk track had rolling hills and was a little bit muddy, which made it a high-grade fun fitness activity, but overall a satisfying experience for all, especially when they crossed the finishing line. A highlight for some was seeing kangaroos on the route.
We want to thank all the walkers who did the mammoth 20km walk and the equally impressive 10km walk in the rain and glimpses of sunshine. What an achievement.
The sun came out in time for lunch and massages at the event village. Giving everyone a chance to recharge, relax, network and bond with their teammates.
We had many teams with people participating across different activities. It was fantastic to see everyone take on the physical challenge and raise vital funds to help build homes for homeless youth.
Fitness champions
Queen and King
of the Mountain
Jennifer Kay from Buildcorp and Will Clark from Lindum Property Partners (who was part of the Tour de Sheds team) were Queen and King of the Mountain on the day. They both were the fastest up the big hill on the cycling route. Great effort by both Jennifer and Will.
20km Run
Taylor John from WT Australia was first across the finishing line for a second year in a row, beating his time from 2022 by 4 minutes. Hetty Horton from TTW was the first woman across the line. A massive achievement for her first time at Tour de PIF.
10km Run
Michael Grimley, also from WT Australia won the 10km run with our very own Jessica Pollard crossing the line first.
Keep Fundraising
As we said on the day, everyone who had a green sticker has been a champion in their fundraising, but there is still time to reach out to your networks and ask for a final donation, or seek a dollar match from your employer.
The Top Fundraiser on the day was Daniel Wise, Aliro, who pipped David Southon, also from Aliro, at the post by $200. Their combined efforts and that of the rest of their team made Aliro the TOP Fundraising Team that raised over $20K.
David was also recognised as our Top Cycling Fundraiser and the Top Walk/Run Fundraiser was Rachael Gatt, KPMG. Thank you to all for raising these vital funds for homeless youth.
Remember, you can keep fundraising for the next fortnight. Every dollar raised equals a step closer to providing a safe place to sleep each night for the over 44,000 homeless youth across the country who don’t.
