Hike for Homeless Youth 2024
The Hike for Homeless Youth Journey
Property and construction leaders are putting on their hiking boots and tackling Queensland’s scenic rim walk to raise funds for homeless youth.
The 2024 Hike for Homeless Youth will see intrepid industry leaders take on two challenging mountains in Queensland’s Scenic Rim on April 19-20. Hikers will fundraise for homeless building projects like Haven House Kingaroy with South Burnett CTC – transitional housing for at-risk young people in Queensland’s Kingaroy area and the Logan Hub with Lady Musgrave Trust, offering transitional housing for vulnerable young mothers and their children in Logan.
“We are so grateful to have these leaders step up for our mission, because every night nearly 10,000 young Queenslanders do not have safe places to lay their heads,” says the Foundation’s QLD State Manager Antoinette Rusby-Perera.
“Their experiences, at their young vulnerable ages, will have lasting effects on the rest of their lives. In 2023, property leaders from Sydney and Melbourne took on a similar challenge and raised over $300K, which was an outstanding result. The property and construction community are committed to giving young people who are homeless, or at risk of being homeless brighter futures.”
With 12 Queensland property and construction leaders already on board, there are a small amount spaces left for the Hike for Homeless Youth.

Todd Pepper Raises Over 35K!
After setting an initial Hike for Homeless Youth fundraising goal of $5,000 Todd Pepper has now raised over an incredible $35K to give vulnerable youth a brighter future.
Founder and Executive Director of Alceon Qld, Todd Pepper has signed up to trek Queensland’s Scenic Rim for Hike for Homeless Youth on 19-20 April and his networks are getting behind the adventure. “I’ve been overwhelmed by the support,” says Todd. “I increased my initial target from $5,000 to $25,000 and this has also been eclipsed. I’m genuinely appreciative of the support from my friends and clients and I look forward to sharing with them where these funds have been deployed and the lives they have changed.”
A member of our Advisory Board in Queensland for the past 12 months, Todd is keen to become part of an interconnected effort to drive systemic change.
Todd is looking forward to taking on the outdoor challenge alongside a group of intrepid industry leaders. Their collective goal is to raise funds to build 300 bedrooms for homeless youth by 2025 through the Foundation’s Haven Project. “All of the executives in this group are respected leaders and influencers in their respective fields, with wide, varied networks,” says Todd. “Hike for Homeless Youth allows us the platform to amplify the need for support for this critical issue and touch each of our networks with the aim of raising as much money as possible for solutions and initiatives to address youth homelessness.”
“The Foundation’s initiatives lead to long-lasting improvements, ensuring that young individuals have access to stable housing and can rebuild their lives. Participating on the advisory board and the Hike for Homeless Youth, allows me to use my connections and expertise to create positive change, provide safe homes, and empower young Australians facing homelessness.”
Giving back is a focus for Todd and his family. “The property industry has been very generous to me and my family and we are at a stage in our lives where we have the capacity to give something back. Through the work that my wife does with ESuarve (programs for disadvantaged youth people) we see the direct benefits of what a bit of love, support and structure can provide to disengaged and troubled youth, however we also see kids in the system who are homeless and lack the basic infrastructure that we all take for granted. I will keep raising up until the date of the hike, but again I am truly appreciative of any support.”
Emma Clement’s Ready for the Challenge
Emma Clements, Principal, Land and Water Group Lead, Inertia Engineering, is raising funds to tackle youth homelessness, one step at a time.
Emma joins other passionate property and construction leaders for Hike for Homeless Youth in Queensland’s Scenic Rim on April 19-20. The committed walking group are already well over halfway towards their initial $120,000 fundraising goal.
Funds raised go towards projects like Haven House Kingaroy with South Burnett CTC – transitional housing for at-risk young people in Queensland’s Kingaroy area and the Logan Hub with Lady Musgrave Trust, offering transitional housing for vulnerable young mothers and their children in Logan.
“I love and fully support the concept of bringing together like-minded people in the property and construction industry together to tackle youth homelessness,” says Emma.
“We all bring different skills to the table and sharing our combined knowledge we can create a bigger impact together. With my background in civil engineering, I can use my knowledge and skills to make a meaningful contribution to social and affordable housing initiatives.
Instead of merely observing, I’m motivated to take action and contribute to the design and construction of homes that are desperately needed and help raise the much-needed funds.”
A keen runner, Emma is physically ready for the challenge of the two-day hike through the remote and rugged mountains of Main Range National Park.
“I’m really looking forward to the hike; I love getting out and about and the Scenic Rim is so beautiful,” says Emma. “Asking people for money doesn’t come as easily, so raising the $5,000 is the real challenge for me.
However, I’m up for the challenge, knowing the end goal is having four women in a safe home by the end of the year.”
“By participating in Hike for Homeless Youth I want to create deeper connections with the industry and to raise further awareness of what the Property Industry Foundation stands for and advocate the great impact they can have in homelessness.”
Emma Clements, Principal, Land and Water Group Lead, Inertia Engineering
Emma hopes to gain new friends and connections from the hike. “By participating in Hike for Homeless Youth I want to create deeper connections with the industry and to raise further awareness of what the Property Industry Foundation stands for and advocate the great impact they can have in homelessness.”
It’s the Final Countdown!
Our Hike for Homeless Youth walkers are in the last few weeks of training for their trek through Queensland’s Scenic Rim on 19-20 April. As a team, the intrepid hikers have crossed the halfway mark towards their $120,000 fundraising target and have raised nearly $70,000. Great work, team! Their 120K goal has added meaning: tonight, 120,000 young Australians will be without a safe and secure place to sleep.
“We will master this challenging day, that pales compared to the difficulties faced every single day by the people we serve.”
Maureen Collins, National Grants & Foundations Manager for the property Industry Foundation
Among the group of committed industry leaders, we have some stellar fundraisers and some who still need our support as they strive towards their personal 5K target.
Alceon’s Executive Director Todd Pepper is currently topping our fundraising leaderboard with an impressive 35K already pledged. In second place is Brian Camilleri, Principal Director at TTM Consulting, with 8K raised and in third is Adam Di Marco, CEO of The Urban Developer and new member of our QLD Board of Advisors who has raised 5K. QLD’s Board of Advisors Chair Salvatore Guardala will also join the hike, alongside all of our incredible Property Leaders who have taken on this challenge. You can give them a cheer by donating to them individually.
A special mention to our newly onboarded Property Industry Foundation staffer Maureen Collins, National Grants & Foundations Manager, who has stepped in at the last minute to take on the 20km hike. “Friendships will be built; teamwork will rise,” says Maureen. “We will master this challenging day, that pales compared to the difficulties faced every single day by the people we serve. The Foundation aims to build 300 bedrooms by 2025 and we are about to start two Haven Projects here in Queensland, one in Logan and one in regional Kingaroy. Let’s get one more young person off the streets tonight!”
Hike for Homeless Youth Raises 122K!
Congratulations to the 18 property and construction leaders from across Queensland who hiked the challenging Scenic Rim on April 19-20 and raised an incredible $122,000 for homeless youth.
An amazing effort from the 18 passionate industry supporters who strapped on their hiking boots and took on a 20km day hike through Queensland’s challenging Scenic Rim for Hike for Homeless Youth 2024. Funds raised go towards vital projects such as Haven House Kingaroy with South Burnett CTC, providing transitional housing for at-risk young people, and the Logan Hub with Lady Musgrave Trust, offering transitional housing for vulnerable young mothers and their children in Logan.
The group met for a dinner before their adventure and were inspired by 16-year-old Mason from ESuave who gave a heartfelt talk on his lived experience of homelessness. “We had the privilege of meeting Mason, an absolutely outstanding teenager who has already endured so much in life that most of us could never even imagine,” said hiker Riye Arai-Coupe, from Bluebird Property. “Mason shared how he was homeless for seven months, sleeping in tents, in bus shelters, and having to break into McDonalds playgrounds for a ‘safe’ place to sleep. He talked of little kids he knew as young as eight deserted and taking up shelter alone in abandoned houses here on the Gold Coast. My daughter is 8 years old. I could never imagine leaving her alone, even in our warm, safe home.”
The following day the team tackled the twin peaks of Mt Mitchell and Mt Cordeaux. While the walk was physically challenging, our intrepid walkers were up to the task, powering through the steep uphill sections and soaking up the incredible mountain views at the top. “It was such a great experience,” said hiker Annabelle Aland, from Allens. “Every hill we climbed symbolised the uphill battle faced by these young individuals, striving for stability and a place to call home. Seeing industry leaders come together, pushing their limits for such a profound cause, is incredibly moving. We hike for a day, but the funds and awareness we raise support relieves some of the immense pressure these young people carry every day.”
“It was incredible two days spent hiking two mountains in the Scenic Rim! It was amazing to be surrounded by such wonderful people who came together to raise over $120k, and counting, for a great cause. A shoutout to the Property Industry Foundation for organising such a successful event. There’s still time to donate – let’s continue to make a difference in our community!”
Ben Teague, Molti
Sal Guardala, Chair of the QLD Board of Advisors, who also completed the hike said projects like Haven House Kingaroy and the Logan Hub create opportunities for education, employment, and personal development, paving a path toward independence and resilience. “Every dollar raised brings us closer to our target of building 300 bedrooms by 2025. The hike is challenging, but nothing compared to the challenges confronting young Queenslanders and Australians facing homelessness,” Sal said. “Through events like these, we not only raise funds but also hope and awareness about the critical challenges faced by homeless youth in our community.”
Todd Peppers, from Alceon Queensland, raised over $42K, after setting an initial fundraising goal of $5000. “I increased my initial target from $5,000 to $25,000 and even that was eclipsed,” Todd said. “I’m genuinely overwhelmed by the support from my friends and clients, and I look forward to sharing with them where these funds have been deployed and the lives they have changed. The Foundation’s initiatives lead to long-lasting improvements, ensuring that young individuals have access to stable housing and can rebuild their lives.”
“An inspiring and humbling weekend where we hiked, fundraised and crushed our targets. A huge vote of thanks to all the amazing team, our crew and our generous supporters. Thank you ISPT for this fulfilling experience, we’re helping support those in need in our communities.”
