Hike The Night
Hiking for Homeless Youth
On Friday 30 May, a group of Victoria’s industry leaders will strap on head torches and join Hike the Night, a unique hiking adventure under the stars in the beautiful Mornington Peninsula.
This inspiring overnight challenge invites Victoria’s property industry leaders to walk the breathtaking Two Bays Trail – a 30km trek from Dromana to Cape Schanck, showcasing the stunning coastal landscapes of Arthurs Seat State Park and Mornington Peninsula National Park before concluding at the spectacular coastal cliffs of Cape Schanck. The hike aims to raise $100,000 raise for The Haven Project – providing more beds and support for homeless and at-risk youth.

Guided by expert tour leaders from Take Shape Adventures, the group will test their endurance on a 3.5 graded trail, suitable for moderate fitness levels. While the trail includes some inclines and uneven terrain, hikers will be supported every step of the way, including regular checkpoints and trail guides to ensure a challenging and safe experience. Participants will be joined by one of the Foundation’s leading charity partners, The Salvation Army to learn from front line workers the challenges facing young people today and will gather for group meals before and after the walk to bond over their shared experience.
”"Each night around Australia there are a shockingly large number of our kids doing it tough due to homelessness. I’m looking forward to embracing a bit of discomfort to raise money for them with a great group of people from across Victoria’s property industry as we hike through the night on 30 May – I’m proud to be involved with this event and for everyone who is supporting the Foundation and this effort no matter whether large or small – we really want to say thank you, it is immensely appreciated by us and these kids!"
Tim Slattery, Chair of the Foundation's Board of Advisors in Victoria.
“We are so grateful to have these passionate industry leaders join us on this unique night hike, showing their support for the 7,000 young people in Victoria who don’t have a safe place to sleep on any given night,” says Priscilla Heathwood, State Manager, VIC. “Every step they take together during Hike the Night brings us closer to breaking the cycle of homelessness for vulnerable young people. Funds raised will go towards The Haven Project, providing safe, stable housing and vital resources to help youth build brighter futures.”

30km by Moonlight!
Victoria’s most intrepid industry leaders are gearing up to join a 30km overnight trek, Hike the Night, on Friday 30 May.
Taking on Two Bays Trail – a 30km trek from Dromana to Cape Schanck, through Arthurs Seat State Park and Mornington Peninsula National Park, will be a huge test of stamina for the 20+ participants, who are aiming to raise $100,000 to build safe, supported housing through the Haven Project and have almost hit the halfway point in their fundraising efforts.
The group have been training hard solo and in groups to prepare for the nocturnal challenge, clocking up kays around the country – including Tasmania, Noosa, the Northern Territory, the Yarra Valley, and beyond! Sponsor a hiker today and ensure our most vulnerable young people have a safe place to call home.
Here’s what some of the Hike the Night participants had to say about why they signed on for the 30km trek:
“Supporting the Property Industry Foundation through Hike the Night was a no-brainer—it’s a powerful, slightly crazy way to shine a light on youth homelessness. As a mum, the issue really hits home; every young person deserves safety and stability.
The Foundation isn’t just building homes—they’re building futures, and as an industry, we have the skills and responsibility to make that happen. I’m showing up with determination, adrenaline, and a whole lot of heart.”
– Whitney McLaren, Director, Clients & Strategy, Deloitte PDS Group

“Giving back is something I’ve always believed in—it’s about inspiring others and showing that our industry stands for more than just profit. I have been a part of the Property Industry Foundation’s Haven House and Capital Committees, and I’m proud to join the team for Hike the Night. A roof over someone’s head is a basic human
“I am proud to support Hike the Night — a great fundraising initiative by the Property Industry Foundation, where I’ve had the privilege of serving as National Chair for over a year. The industry’s ongoing support in helping provide housing for homeless youth is truly inspiring. As an avid cyclist, I’m looking forward to putting some of that fitness to work on the hike!”
– Bevan Towning, Chair, Property Industry Foundation
“When the opportunity came up to support the Property Industry Foundation through Hike the Night, I jumped at it—many of my colleagues had spoken highly of their experiences. Giving back is important to me because it’s easy to forget that not everyone shares the same opportunities.
The Foundation’s work building homes for homeless youth is a powerful, practical way our industry can make a real difference. Safe accommodation is a basic human right, and for young people, a stable home is often the first step towards a brighter future.”
– Ben Owen, Chief Operating Officer of ID_CORP

“A safe home is the foundation for everything — health, education, and hope. That’s why the work the Property Industry Foundation does is so vital. Stability starts with shelter, and every home built is a step toward a better future for a young person.”
– Camille Jasson, Board Member at the Daylesford Foundation
“I am really excited to be partaking in the Foundation’s Hike the Night event. As we navigate trails under the stars, we’re taking meaningful steps toward providing more homes for homeless and at-risk youths.”
– Rob Joyes, State Chief Executive, Colliers

“I’m very much looking forward to taking part in this challenge with a great group of industry people to share the experience with. And the bonus being the opportunity to raise some serious dollars for a very good cause. Thanks to all those that have supported this event so far- it’s most humbling to see the generosity and support from friends across the industry.”
– Teena Lynch, Director Property Origination, Wingate
Hike the Night – Mission Accomplished!
On Friday May 30, 22 Victorian property and construction leaders joined forces to raise over $125,000 for homeless youth through a new event, Hike the Night – a 30km overnight trek through breathtaking Two Bays Trail.
Meeting for a pre-trek dinner, the group set off around 10pm, guided in the darkness by expert tour leaders from Take Shape Adventures. As they set off with headlights and fresh legs, the hikers were determined to conquered sleep deprivation and hill climbs to reach the Cape Schank Lighthouse at sunrise.
Whitney McLaren, Deloitte, was part of the unforgettable evening. “From 10pm-7am we trekked 30km along the (apparently!) stunning Two Bays Trail. Despite the lack of sleep, the banter was strong, the costume changes were bold, and the camaraderie? Unmatched. A ton of spirit, energy and magic and an unforgettable night with some truly wonderful people. This is no doubt Hike the Night is going to become an annual Foundation event.”

The following day the team tackled the twin peaks of Mt Mitchell and Mt Cordeaux. While the walk was physically challenging, our intrepid walkers were up to the task, powering through the steep uphill sections and soaking up the incredible mountain views at the top. “It was such a great experience,” said hiker Annabelle Aland, from Allens. “Every hill we climbed symbolised the uphill battle faced by these young individuals, striving for stability and a place to call home. Seeing industry leaders come together, pushing their limits for such a profound cause, is incredibly moving. We hike for a day, but the funds and awareness we raise support relieves some of the immense pressure these young people carry every day.”
“Mission accomplished. 30 hours without sleep and 30km’s of hiking. Massive thank you to the outstanding people and organisations that have donated, enabling homeless youth to do homework in a bedroom rather than under a bridge.”
Andrew Williams, Tetris Capital

Priscilla Heathwood, Property Industry Foundation State Manager, Victoria was also blown away by the team spirit during the hike. “The team were pumped from the start! There were familiar faces and new faces within the group, which helped with great banter as we started the journey. The positive energy of the group dispelled any apprehension about the lack of sleep and unknown challenges that lay ahead.”
The trekkers were blessed with good weather as overnight temperatures hovered around 9 degrees, with little wind and only a spot of rain for 20 minutes – some even decided to walk in shorts and T-shirts! “Hike the Night is one of the best things I’ve ever been part of,” enthused hiker Fiona Dunster, FIDUN. “A very big thanks to fellow hiker Whit for lending me one of her walking poles – just one example of the many, many actions of kindness that were such a key theme of the night.”
“A wonderful experience with a great group of people for an even better cause.”
Whitney McLaren, Deloitte PDS Group
Refueling stations helped keep the hikers nourished and hydrated deep throughout the trek, with camaraderie growing with each step. “The beauty of the hike were the special moments of joy, when were able to stop and savour the unique experience,” said Priscilla. “Seeing 22 headlights trekking down a dark path in single file was so special; knowing we were all there for each other, sharing headlights and walking poles as sleep deprivation kicked in around 4am.”
Waiting at the finish line was the majestic Cape Schank lighthouse, stunning views over the headland, and a hot breakfast. “After trekking in the pitch black all night, we were greeted by a beautiful sunrise and the Cape Schank lighthouse – it was such a joy knowing we had made it back home safely,” said Priscilla. “The goal for Hike the Night was simple; to bring likeminded property people together to raise significant funds for significant impact; achievable when we worked together as a team.”

With many of the hikers already wanting to sign up for next year’s challenge, and the fundraising goal smashed, Hike the Night was a resounding success. Robert Pepicelli, ISPT, who raised an astounding $11,500, said the experience was transformative. “For me, this is more than just another fundraiser,” said Robert. “Every step we took represents our industry’s shared belief that we can, and should, create places where vulnerable young people can find stability, dignity and a genuine chance at a better future.”
Said Priscilla: “We had a goal of raising $100,000 for the Haven Project and the team surpassed this by 25K; an amazing achievement and testament to their determination to support the Foundation and the collective work we do to provide more beds and wraparound support for young people at risk or experiencing homelessness.”
