This month we put the finishing touches and opened the doors to the refurbishment of the second house we have built in Dulwich Hill for Stepping Stone House. Our industry supporters and those that contributed to the project got to come in and see first-hand the tangible impact they have made for the 5 young people that will be calling Dulwich Hill home.

This home has undergone renovations both indoors and the backyard as part of the Haven Project (formerly the PIF House Program) and will be medium-term accommodation for 5 young people (3 at least identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander), and one Stepping Stone House youth worker.

ADCO Constructions has spearheaded the renovation, along with support from their suppliers and subcontractors. Prior to its opening this November, the house will be made a home thanks to the in-kind donations of King Living, Harvey Norman, Montage Interiors and Rider Levett Bucknall.

Computers from Rider Levett Bucknall and desks and chairs from Montage Interiors for each room will help empower the young people living in this home to pursue further education and connect better with their community and friends.

Harvey Norman has provided the big kitchen appliances ensuring that these young people have the tools to learn about healthy eating and give them the space in which they can spend quality time together to cook.

The lounge, dining and garden furniture has been donated by King Living. Designed for the Australian lifestyle, the furniture from King Living will elevate the making a house into a home for these young people in need.

The culmination of work came to a satisfying head as our house opening was a great opportunity to network with one another and learn more about what we do at the Property Industry Foundation by hearing from our CEO Kate Mills, ADCO’s John Basilico and the carers and youth from Stepping Stone House. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as the impact of having a home for a young person in need was made clear by the carers and young person on the day.
