Queensland Board of Advisor’s Chair, Salvatore Guardala shares the latest news from the Sunshine State.
It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through our 10th anniversary year! And what a banner year it’s turning out to be. Our recent Property Industry Foundation Charity Regatta, held at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron on 19 May was a sell-out event, with a record 41 boats raising funds for youth homelessness. Thank you to all our industry supporters for coming out on the day to make the event such a success.
In Queensland, 9,593 young people are homeless or without stable housing. For 10 years the Property Industry Foundation in QLD has raised over $2 million for local charitable projects that impact young people in need. As we approach the EOFY, please consider a donation to our Foundation to provide these struggling young Aussies with secure, long-term accommodation. Young people need a safe place to live to thrive and fulfil their potential.
Your tax-deductable gift supports The Haven Project, our flagship initiative, which brings the property and construction industries together to build homes for homeless youth. These properties are then managed by our valued Charity Partners, like The Salvation Army, Brisbane Youth Services, South Burnett CTC, Lady Musgrave Trust, BABI Youth Services, Rize Up, Small Steps for Hannah and Act for Kids.
Specialised wraparound support and programs in the homes are designed to help young residents to access education, stable employment and long-term housing. This helps break the cycle of youth homelessness and changes lives for the better.
Looking ahead, I’m thrilled to announce two exciting new Haven Projects in the pipeline for our region – Haven House Yarrabilba and Haven House Kingaroy. I’m also looking forward to seeing lots of lunch-break warriors go hard for 20 minutes in Pedal for Homeless Youth at Queen Street Mall on 25 July.
With your help, we are well on our way to our goal of building 300 bedrooms for homeless youth by 2025.
