Queensland Board of Advisor’s Chair, Salvatore Guardala shares the latest news from the Sunshine State.

2023 kicked off with the exciting announcement of former tennis pro and high-profile sports commentator Jelena Dokic as a new Property Industry Foundation Ambassador. Jelena is a true inspiration for what she has been through as a sporting champion and her personal battles with family violence, coercive control and homelessness.

I’m thrilled that as our Ambassador, Jelena is committed to supporting the Foundation in making a difference to the lives of homeless and at-risk youth. She has shown strength and courage in the face of adversity and gives hope that community support is crucial for young people experiencing homelessness, by giving them a roof over their head, a place to belong, and a sense of purpose. We are grateful for Jelena’s advocacy and look forward to achieving great things together.

This year also marks the Property Industry Foundation’s 10th Year in Queensland – a significant milestone. I’m so excited to see the Foundation 10 years strong in QLD, and would like to thank the construction and property industry here for their continued support and generosity over the past decade to make our Haven Projects a reality. We invite our friends and partners to join us in celebrating our 10 year celebration at a Gala Dinner on 31 August at Brisbane’s very own Calile Hotel in Fortitude Valley.

Later in the year, we’re looking forward to the Brisbane Charity Regatta in May, Stadium Stomp and Pedal for Homeless Youth in July and Backseat SleepOut in October.

All our events provide great opportunities for our industry to make a meaningful contribution to the Foundation’s goal of creating safe and nurturing homes for young people in need. One such project is the Haven Project in Morayfield in partnership with Act for Kids. On track to open in 2023, this new therapy centre will be a lifeline to many at-risk children and their families in the area.

Whether you sail a yacht, walk, SleepOut in your backseat, cycle, offer pro bono services or fundraise with your staff, we are so grateful you’re on our team. Together, we can have a tangible and lasting impact on youth homelessness.
