AECOM teamed up with Property Industry Foundation’s Furniture Fund during a recent renovation of their Sydney office – keeping their office furniture out of landfill and donating the profits raised to homeless youth.

James Rosenwax, AECOM’s Regional Managing Director, NSW + ACT says the partnership provided their organisation with a win-win scenario.

“We’ve recently renovated our Sydney office and took this opportunity to re-use and re-purpose much of the surplus furniture. This reduced the amount of furniture going to landfill and more importantly, helped it find a new life in another office space. As part of our commitment to the Property Industry Foundation, we donated all proceeds from the sale of this furniture towards their support of housing disadvantaged youth”

AECOM worked with Egans to recycle and re-use their surplus office furniture. Says James:

“To date AECOM has provided over 800 items of furniture and will continue to donate any additional furniture as completion of the fit-out approaches in March 2022. We have additional furniture in storage, including lounges, seats and tables.”

Egans also provided recycled standing desks for AECOM.

“On top of up-cycling our furniture, Egans have also supplied our sit-to-stand desks which have been recycled and repurposed to meet AECOM’s needs. This has prevented over 100 MDF desktops from entering landfill and will help our staff stay healthy and creative.”

Being part of the Furniture Fund initiative means AECOM enjoys multiple positive impacts on both their business and the planet.

“The donation of funds from the sale of our surplus furniture into the Furniture Fund aligns with AECOM’s Corporate Social Responsibility commitments,”

“The re-use of our existing furniture through repair and recovering, coupled with the use of recycled desks align well with AECOM’s ESG commitments and our purpose of “delivering a better world’.”

With all funds raised going to support homeless youth, James and the AECOM team can be sure they’re making a difference to vulnerable and at-risk young Australians.

“AECOM is very proud to be part of this initiative,”

"It’s important organisations such as AECOM help deliver and support the vital work you do for young people within the community and support those in need during times of crisis.”

AECOM has been a valued supporter of the Property Industry Foundation for many years and we look forward to working with them on future projects.

“We are currently looking at opportunities for our staff to get involved in a Haven Housing project and have enjoyed working with Property Industry Foundation through the Furniture Fund,”

“We will look for additional opportunities to engage with Property Industry Foundation as we manage our office portfolio across Australia.”
