Specialist design consultancy DDEG have joined the Property Industry Foundation as a new National Donor. We spoke to Director Paul Mulholland about their dedication to providing safe and stable housing for homeless and vulnerable youth.
What made DDEG want to join the Foundation as a National Donor?
The mission of the Foundation closely aligns with DDEG’s core values of compassion, integrity, and community. We recognise the importance of providing safe and stable housing for vulnerable youth as a fundamental step towards breaking the cycle of poverty and homelessness. By partnering with the Foundation, DDEG reinforces its dedication to these values and demonstrates its commitment to creating a positive social impact.
How did you come to know of the Foundation and its work?
We previously undertook a pro bono project with the Lady Musgrave Trust. The unexpected effect this project had on our company was truly remarkable. The engagement and dedication displayed by our team members surpassed all expectations. The sense of purpose and the knowledge that their work was making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable women fostered a renewed sense of motivation and unity within the company.
Inspired by the positive impact of the Lady Musgrave Trust project, we decided to explore further opportunities to engage in pro bono work. We approached the project manager, expressing our keen interest in pursuing more of these types of projects. With their guidance, we sought recommendations for other organisations that could benefit from our expertise and resources. They suggested the Property Industry Foundation after working with the Foundation in partnership on Haven House Logan, new transitional housing for at-risk young mothers (aged 18-24 years) and their children.
What’s important to DDEG about supporting homeless youth?
We live in a very lucky country. There’s no excuse for youth homelessness in a place that has so much. Our nation boasts a robust economy, a comprehensive social welfare system, and an abundance of resources that should, in theory, ensure that every citizen has access to the necessities of life. Yet, the sad reality is that youth homelessness remains a pressing issue that demands our attention and action.
“By providing homeless youth with the support they need, we are investing in the future of our community and our society as a whole.”
Paul Mulholland, DDEG Director
Today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders. By providing homeless youth with the support they need, we are investing in the future of our community and our society as a whole. These young individuals have the potential to make significant contributions if given the opportunity to develop their talents and skills.
What Foundation events or activities are your team looking forward to being part of?
Given the diverse range of interests within our team, it’s no surprise that there is a strong desire to participate in a multitude of activities. Whether it’s volunteering at community events, marking Youth Homelessness Matters Day, or taking part in networking events, the enthusiasm is palpable.
