A new therapy centre in Moreton Bay is near completion following a significant community collaboration to better support vulnerable young people in the region.
What was once an abandoned vet clinic is currently being transformed into a vibrant youth services facility set to deliver evidence-based intervention therapy, after the Caboolture Sports Club generously granted the Property Industry Foundation’s charity partner Act for Kids a peppercorn lease on the property.
The centre is set to officially open mid-2023 after undergoing a visual transformation over the coming months.
“This has been a special project bringing the community together to help provide vital therapy for children and young people who have experienced or are at-risk of harm. We are thrilled the project is in its final stages of completion before opening,” Doctor Katrina Lines, Act for Kids CEO said. “Act for Kids is incredibly grateful for the Property Industry Foundation’s commitment to helping young people in Moreton Bay where we know there is an incredible need for support,” Dr Lines explained.
The new centre has been a community collaboration between the Caboolture Sports Club, Property Industry Foundation, Budget Direct Powered by Auto and General and Act for Kids. It has also been supported by Liebke Builders and driven by volunteer project manager Nick Prestwood from JLL, who has done a brilliant job leading the army of trades, engineers and professional services that have come together under the Foundation banner to support the project.
“The project would not have been possible without all the partners. There has been a truly enormous effort and dedication by everyone involved to keep it moving forward no matter the challenges that came with refurbishing the building,” Dr Lines said.
The ultimate outcome for everyone involved is knowing that young people who are at-risk of harm in the region will be able to access life-changing therapy and mental health services.
“Act for Kids hopes that everyone who has been involved in this project from the financial support, the in-kind support and volunteering of time, can all look back extremely proudly on their contribution and know the positive impact it will create for young people and their families in the area for many years to come. Our team is incredibly grateful to everyone for sharing the vision to give children and young people in Moreton Bay a chance to access the help they deserve.” Dr Lines said.
