The event raised over $54,000 for homeless youth building projects like Haven House Kingaroy, a project in partnership with South Burnett CTC that will provide transitional housing for young people in crisis.

From CEO’s, to families and future leaders, an enthusiastic group of 40 slept out in their cars for the night and discovered more about the frightening and destabilising experience of homelessness as a young person. The night featured speakers from our charity partner organisations, as well as heartfelt testimonials from young people with lived experiences of homelessness.

Joseph Te Puni-Fromont, Founder, Esuarve and Ari talked about the huge difference the right support can make on a young person’s future. “This impactful event highlights a cause that is deeply aligned with our mission to address youth homelessness and support vulnerable young people,” said Joseph. “Backseat SleepOut helps spread awareness of the challenges faced by disadvantaged youth in our community.”

Other guest speakers on the night included Laura Bos (Small Steps 4 Hannah) and Louise Baker and Essie (Brisbane Youth Service). “The Backseat SleepOut is an incredible initiative which highlights the reality of young people who are homeless and at-risk,” said Tish Byram, SS4H Administration Manager. “Our Director Laura Bos was honoured to speak on the night and we are so we are grateful to support such a wonderful cause.

Backseat beats were provided by Soul Cutz (Benson and crew) who brought funk,  soul and party vibes to get the crowd up and grooving. A delicious dinner was put on by Poulet and Porc and reviving morning coffee and muffins by The Rich Pour Coffee.

Property Industry Foundation Queensland State Manager Antoinette Rusby-Perera, participated in the moving and eye-opening event and was impressed by industry’s ongoing support for homeless youth.

Thousands of young Queenslanders don’t have a safe or stable home and are forced to couch surf, sleep in cars or on the street, so it was inspiring to see the industry come together overnight to support the homeless youth crisis,” said Antoinette.
