For Ash*, having a safe and stable place to live, like Haven House Granville, has meant being able to stay focused on their education, wellbeing and future.
At 20, Ash was experiencing homelessness following family breakdown and family and domestic violence. With no family support and facing significant social isolation, their housing situation was also putting their university studies at risk.
After a period in transitional accommodation, Ash moved into Haven House Granville, operated by Platform Youth Services, where they found a safe, stable and supportive place to call home.
With secure housing and flexible support in place, Ash was able to remain engaged in their university degree while strengthening their connection to mental health and medical services and developing the skills needed to live independently.
Just as importantly, Ash began building a stronger sense of connection and belonging. They became actively involved in university working groups and contributed as a client representative through Platform Pride initiatives, using their experiences to help support others.
Today, Ash is working towards transitioning into long-term housing. They are contributing towards their living costs, building their financial independence and continuing to pursue their educational goals.
Ash’s journey demonstrates what can become possible when a young person has more than somewhere to stay. A safe and stable home can provide the foundation to continue studying, reconnect with community and begin planning for the future.
Through Haven House Granville, the Property Industry Foundation and Platform Youth Services are helping provide young people like Ash with the stability and support they need to move forward.
