FareShare rescues surplus food and serves up thousands of free, nutritious meals for those doing it tough. Through our volunteer Workerbee program, a group from Knight Frank joined the kitchen in Melbourne’s Abbotsford to prepare and pack over 2,500 meals.
“We saw the day as not only a chance of helping our community, but a chance to do something together,” says Kerrie Judge, Director, Operations. “It gave us satisfaction in knowing we played a role in the fight to stop hunger.”
As grocery prices rise, the need for community food services like FareShare is critical. “Food insecurity has been big over the last few years in Victoria and we wanted to help those who find themselves hungry through no fault of their own,” says Kerrie.
The Knight Frank team had a hands-on, enriching experience during their volunteering shift. “Alongside a crew from another organisation, we helped prepare thousands of meals destined for those doing it tough in our community,” says Kerrie. “We assembled, packed and sealed in excess of 2,500 meals in single serve trays and cryovac pouches, which included burrito meals, gnocchi and macaroni meals, dumplings with greens and soy sauce, and chicken meals.”
The group also learnt more about the importance of nutrition for vulnerable groups, like homeless youth. “The nutritional aspect of food security is often overlooked, in favour of simply ensuring people are eating regular meals,” says Kerrie. “We are now educated on the importance of this and will continue to encourage others to get involved and educated in a cause like FareShare.”

NSW and QLD are also supporters.” says Kerrie. “It’s important for businesses to support their community and in particular homeless youth as everyone deserves the right to have a safe roof over their head and a meal on the table. In the small way we contribute, we like to think we make a difference.”
FareShare is a charity kitchen that rescues quality products destined for landfill and turns them into meals for those in need. Each year, FareShare cooks millions of meals which are distributed across QLD and Victoria to front line homelessness charities, the elderly and rural or isolated communities.
