Kick Start Café

A caffeine kick to young careers

Located on construction sites across Sydney, Kick Start Café is a social enterprise supported by the PAYCE Foundation, a philanthropic organisation that focuses on helping causes such as homelessness, domestic violence and drug and alcohol abuse amongst young people. Kick Start Café has been operating since 2014 as a worksite canteen that employs youth facing barriers to employment.

Kick Start Café has a vision to break the cycle of disadvantage in Australia, one young person at a time. Their work is built around removing the barriers to employment through meaningful work, vocational education, tailored support services, mentoring and life skills. It is about giving youth the tools to create a fulfilling life for themselves.

Operating out of mobile food vans on building sites, Kick Start Café employs young people, helps them obtain a Certificate III in Hospitality and supports them in securing further employment or training opportunities. Kick Start Café operates five food vans on worksites, supported by a full production kitchen.

Aiding in a time of need
During this pandemic, Kick Start Café has adapted, by also providing emergency food relief to those in need in this time. Over three months, Kick Start Café has provided nearly 15,538 meals to disadvantaged individuals and families.

Through on-the-job training and career coaching, Kick Start Café provides young people at risk with opportunities to grow and develop career paths that once seemed out of reach.
