Winter in Sydney is tough, but it’s especially miserable when you don’t have a hot cuppa and a nourishing breakfast to get your day going.
An enthusiastic volunteering group from Stantec served a hearty breakfast to Sydney’s homeless and disadvantaged community through our Workerbee program at Early Bird Café in the Sydney CBD. “Stantec have been long-time supporters of the Property Industry Foundation and in the past year we have increased our support by way of becoming National Donors,” says Stantec Acoustic Project Engineer Meisha Stevens. “When I found out about the Early Bird Café through the Future Leaders Committee, it looked like a great opportunity for some corporate volunteering. We really enjoyed ourselves, and it was a great way for our staff to feel engaged and make a difference to those less fortunate.”
The Stantec team enjoyed pitching in at Early Bird Café by preparing and serving meals as part of their annual Stantec in the Community Week. “It was a meaningful and enriching experience for our participants,” says Senior Civil Engineer Melissa Diaz. “The atmosphere on the day was amazing and we arrived with our best energy, willing to help with whatever was required. Seeing the smiles on the faces of patrons when they received their meals, fruits and hot drinks, was very rewarding. I think at some point we all realised that with just a bit of collective effort, we can really make a big impact.”
Early Bird Cafe is located at St Stephens Uniting Church in the Sydney CBD. They serve a delicious breakfast, rain or shine from Monday to Friday 7am-8am from the 197 Macquarie Street steps.
