A formalised commitment to circular economy principles and social impact sees ALD embed support for youth homelessness directly into every project it delivers.

The Property Industry Foundation welcomes ALD as its National De-fit Product Partner — a milestone that moves the relationship between the two organisations from one of ongoing goodwill into a structured, scalable commitment with measurable outcomes for Australia’s homeless youth.

For ALD, the partnership is the natural next step in a journey that began with a deeply personal conviction. “Homelessness does not discriminate and can happen to anyone from any background or circumstance,” said Paul Rosenberg Vella, National Manager at ALD. “For ALD, it’s quite simple — everyone deserves a safe place to call home and a fair start in life.”

“We’re in an industry that literally builds spaces. There’s a responsibility to contribute beyond commercial outcomes — and this partnership is about using what we do to create real social impact.”

As National De-fit Product Partner, ALD will support the Foundation’s Haven Projects through sustainable de-fit and make-good services — ensuring that materials and assets removed during fitout works are responsibly managed rather than directed to landfill. The arrangement formalises what ALD describes as a long-term commitment rather than a transactional one.

Kate Mills, CEO, Property Industry Foundation, welcomed the arrangement. “National product partnerships like this demonstrate and reinforce our industry’s commitment to making a lasting impact on young people experiencing homelessness,” she said. “ALD have been and continue to be a pivotal partner for the Foundation — their support and contribution goes beyond fundraising to garnering their skills and expertise to help build our homes, such as our latest project at Haven House Heathmont for Lighthouse Foundation. This is exactly the kind of enduring, skills-based partnership that creates real change.”

ALD’s commitments as National De-fit Product Partner

  • Identifying opportunities for reuse, repurposing and rehoming of materials and assets
  • Diverting materials from landfill through responsible end-of-life management
  • Supporting circular pathways via partnerships with LOOP Solutions, Milliken, and aligned product partners
  • Delivering cost-effective and efficient outcomes on Haven Projects
  • A 2% contribution to the Foundation for every project awarded through the Foundation network, creating a consistent and regular funding stream for youth homelessness initiatives

The 2% contribution mechanism is a deliberate structural feature — designed to ensure that ALD’s support scales with the volume of work it undertakes, rather than relying on one-off donations or campaign moments. “It’s important to us that our involvement is consistent and meaningful,” Rosenberg Vella said. “We see it as a long-term commitment, not a transactional one.”

ALD has supported the Foundation for a number of years through direct donations, fundraising initiatives, pro bono services, and participation in events including Christmas campaigns, regattas, and project-based support. Formalising the arrangement, the company says, reflects the maturity of an industry where partnerships like this are “no longer optional, but essential.”

The partnership also aligns closely with ALD’s broader sustainability strategy. Through its collaboration with LOOP Solutions and other circular economy pathway partners, ALD will work to ensure that de-fitted materials find a second life wherever possible — maximising both environmental and social value from every project.

“Hearing stories from young people who’ve experienced homelessness — and seeing how having a roof over their head, wrap-around care and safety has transformed their lives — is the foundation of why we all do what we do.”

Looking ahead, ALD will continue its active participation in the Foundation’s event calendar. The upcoming Queensland Regatta — only weeks away — will see ALD contribute as the Oyster & Bubbles sponsor, bringing together industry contacts old and new in support of the cause.

“What’s most important is that partnerships like this show what’s possible when commercial outcomes, sustainability, and social impact are aligned,” Rosenberg Vella said. “We’re committed to continuing to push this forward — ensuring that what we do on projects not only delivers for clients but contributes to something much bigger.”
