Buchan joins Queensland Sleep Out
Architecture firm Buchan are putting a team of driven staff members together to participate in this year’s Property Industry Sleep Out in Queensland at the end of this month. Speaking with the team gave a great indication as to what motivated them to join the Sleep Out and how they plan on doing their part to help stop youth homelessness.
Why is Buchan participating in the Sleep Out?
As architects and place makers, we have a natural curiosity and drive to explore, understand and try to solve problems that pertain to people and their interaction with the built environment. We’re inspired by the work the Property Industry Foundation do in creating transitional housing to help young people get back on their feet following hardship, and are proud to support them in their purpose to help homeless youth across Australia towards a brighter future.
How many people from the office will be participating?
Our Gold Coast Studio has twelve staff and three of our keen graduates are taking part, to be cheered on by family, friends and work colleagues from across the globe.
Where will everyone be sleeping?
This year we will be sleeping out at Pacific Fair with little to no luxuries. While this will be only a small insight into the life that many people experiencing homelessness live through, we hope that it will help us gain a better understanding of the cause while also raising money to support the great work of the Property Industry Foundation.
How are you encouraging fundraising in this current climate?
In addition to traditional in person-based fundraising in our Gold Coast office we will also be taking our efforts online this year, raising money virtually across our global studios and personal social networks. Local businesses Bunnings Southport and Coles Southport have kindly shown their support for this worthy cause, donating to a raffle that we are running to bolster our fundraising efforts.
What is your team fundraising goal?
Our initial team goal is $2,000, and we will be doing everything we can to meet – and exceed – this.
