Pitcher Partners have come on board as sponsors of the Toiletries Drive and Wrap Day in Melbourne.

Our industry supporters in Victoria will gather on 16 August to box up everyday toiletries items for homeless youth. These supplies are then donated to Melbourne City Mission (MCM) to be distributed to the cities most vulnerable and in need young people. We talked to Matt Stevens, Pitcher Partners Senior Manager about why they wanted to sponsor the event.

“Being able to maintain basic hygiene practices can help those living transient or sleeping rough reduce the risk of disease, improve self-esteem and social inclusion and overall improve their quality of life.”

Why did Pitcher Partners want to sponsor the Toiletries Drive and Wrap Day?

At Pitcher Partners we believe that a sustainable society and vibrant community are integral to the world we live and do business in. The Toiletries Drive and Wrap Day is an opportunity to bring that spirit to life and come together with the industry to support a vital cause. We are proud supporters of the Property Industry Foundation and are involved in many of its great initiatives, so the opportunity to sponsor the Drive and host the Wrap Day was a great way to continue this partnership. It also provides our staff a direct opportunity to connect with the Foundation, ultimately increasing awareness of youth homelessness.

What’s so important about access to toiletries for homeless youth?

Many of us take for granted using toiletries in our daily routines, but for homeless youth, not being able to access essentials like soap, toothpaste and menstrual hygiene products can have significant detrimental impacts on overall physical and mental health. Being able to maintain basic hygiene practices can help those living transient or sleeping rough reduce the risk of disease, improve self-esteem and social inclusion and overall improve their quality of life.

Tell us how Pitcher Partners is getting behind the event?

In addition to collecting essential toiletries, such as soap, deodorant and body wash from our staff and clients, this year Pitcher Partners is also hosting the Wrap Day. This is a great chance to come together with the industry, connect and make a real difference to the lives of Melbourne’s homeless and at-risk youths.

How can others in the industry get involved?

There are many ways to get involved, by starting a collection point at your workplace or within your community, reaching out to any wholesale or retail connections who may have excess stock to donate, or just coming along to the Wrap Day and lending a hand packaging up the goods.

Why is it important for your organisation to support the Foundation?

With 44,000 young Australians affected by youth homelessness, Pitcher Partners understands the need for comprehensive strategies to address the issues faced by these young people. We can see the real impact the Foundation is having, so we look to support their many initiatives in any way we can.
