Getting to know the residents of our Haven Houses…
It can be tough to open up and trust others when you’re facing homelessness and struggling with undiagnosed mental health challenges. Feeling confused and alone, *Charlie initially put up walls when they first arrived at Haven House Dulwich Hill 2 in Sydney’s Inner West. The safety and support offered by the second home built by the Foundation for Frontline Charity, Stepping Stone House made all the difference in turning their life around.
After a professional mental health assessment and a diagnosis, Charlie accessed ongoing mental health care and gender affirmation services, along with holistic support in all areas of their life. Finally feeling accepted and cared for, it wasn’t long before Charlie relaxed, could manage their emotions, and start to make lasting connections within the supportive community.
”“Through perseverance and the right support, Charlie has built a strong foundation for their future, demonstrating resilience and growth in their journey toward independence.”

Over three years, Charlie worked hard to grow confidence, develop independent living skills and make a solid plan for their future. With support and encouragement from the Stepping Stone House team, Charlie was able to move into a semi-independent annexe flat at Haven House Dulwich Hill 2 to practice living on their own, and then into a private rental apartment where they are now thriving.
