The refurbishment of Haven House Heathmont is bringing together committed partners from across the property and construction industry to help restore an important home for young people and families in need.
Coordinated through the Property Industry Foundation, the project continues a long-standing partnership with Lighthouse Foundation and reflects the sector’s shared commitment to creating safe, stable and supportive housing for vulnerable young people.
The refurbishment is now well underway, with the home stripped back and new interiors being installed. These critical upgrades will bring renewed life, functionality and flexibility to a property that has supported young people experiencing homelessness and trauma for more than 15 years.
Located in Melbourne’s outer eastern suburbs, Haven House Heathmont is a five-bedroom therapeutic home operated by Lighthouse Foundation. The home is being thoughtfully upgraded, including the kitchen, bathrooms and living spaces, to create a welcoming and nurturing environment for the young families.
For young parents navigating trauma and building new lives, the quality and feel of their physical environment matters deeply. This refurbishment will help ensure Haven House Heathmont can continue providing safety, stability and support for years to come.

“For Lighthouse, Haven House Heathmont is more than just a home — it’s a place where young people who have experienced homelessness and trauma can feel safe, valued, and supported,” said Brenda Boland, Lighthouse Foundation CEO. “This refurbishment, delivered in partnership with the Property Industry Foundation, Growthpoint, and Kane Constructions, ensures we can continue giving these young people a foundation to grow and the confidence they need to heal and thrive.”

“By refurbishing Haven House Heathmont rather than allowing it to sit vacant, this project is protecting and restoring existing bed capacity for young people in need,” said Priscilla Heathwood, State Manager VIC, Property Industry Foundation. “This is a textbook example of how the Property Industry Foundation brings together the property and construction industry to have a tangible impact on youth homelessness, leveraging industry relationships and expertise to deliver real social impact.”
“Growthpoint is proud to be playing a hands-on role in this refurbishment, helping ensure continued stability, care and opportunity for young people who need it most,” said Steve Lee, Director of Projects at Growthpoint Properties Australia and Chair of the Haven Project Committee for the Property Industry Foundation.
“Kane Constructions is proud to be delivering the refurbishment of Haven House Heathmont, and we thank our trade and supply partners for helping us upgrade the home’s interior spaces so this property can continue its important work for years to come,” said Peter Spence, Project Manager, Kane Constructions.
A wide network of industry partners and Kane Constructions trade partners are contributing their time, materials and expertise to bring this project to life.
