Donate sanitary products and help bundle them up for the Salvation Army Upton Road youth refuge at our Toiletries Wrap Day on 21 August at Pitcher Partners in Docklands.
“The toiletry items donated at the wrap event will be used by young people experiencing homelessness who present to Salvation Army Services across Victoria,” says Claire Edmanson, Program Manager, The Salvation Army. “It means that whether sleeping in a refuge, a motel, emergency accommodation or couch surfing, a young person has access to essential toiletry items. At the Upton Rd youth refuge, we make sure that every unit is made up with a fresh toiletry pack when a young person arrives which is so important as many young people arrive with very limited belongings.”
The Toiletries Wrap event will be hosted by Pitcher Partners in Docklands for a second consecutive year. “Access to toiletries is crucial for homeless youth because it helps maintain basic hygiene. This is essential for their physical health and mental wellbeing,” says Brigette Jones, Pitcher Partners, Practice Manager – Tax Advisory and a Property Industry Foundation Future Leaders Committee member. “Lack of access to hygiene products can lead to health issues, social stigma, and a decrease in self-esteem. Providing these necessities can reduce the risk of disease, improve self-esteem and overall quality of life. Providing toiletries is a simple yet vital step in supporting homeless youth.”
Brigette encourages the property and construction industry to get involved by donating products or attending the event. “Set up a collection point at your workplace, tell your friends and family, or even reach out to wholesalers who may have excess stock they can donate,” she says. “Or you can come along to the wrap day and help with the packing. There are lots of opportunities to get involved.”
In the weeks leading up to the Wrap Day, Pitcher Partners have set up a collection point where staff can easily donate items. “This initiative helps gather essential supplies and encourages community involvement within our organisation,” says Brigette. “37% of homeless people – 45,000 people – are under the age of 25. The Property Industry Foundation is committed to not just battling the symptoms but addressing the root causes of youth homelessness. At Pitcher Partners, we can see the real impact the Foundation is having, so we are eager to support their various initiatives in any way we can.”
Donate or join the Toiletries Wrap Day on 21 August and you’ll be showing homeless youth that you care. We’re putting together packages for the Salvation Army Upton Road Youth Refuge including shampoo, conditioner, sanitary products, dental care, sunscreen, band aids, roll on deodorants and more.
