For many young people, growing up already comes with uncertainty. For young people facing homelessness, that uncertainty is magnified, forcing them to navigate adulthood, education, work, and relationships without the safety of a stable home or consistent support. Through The Haven Project, the Property Industry Foundation, in partnership with the property and construction industry and frontline charities, gives young people more than just a roof over their heads. Homes like Haven House Balgowlah. They receive safety, support, and the opportunity to rebuild their futures.

When *Sienna first connected with Burdekin at just 14 years old, she was already facing significant challenges. Over the next six years, Burdekin supported her through outreach services before helping her transition into their Youth Housing Program when she became pregnant at 16. Throughout every stage, Burdekin remained a consistent source of guidance and support, helping Sienna build confidence, independence, and belief in her future.

When Haven House Balgowlah became available, it provided the stability Sienna needed to begin building a different future for herself and her daughter. With a safe and secure home, Sienna has been able to focus on her long-term goals while raising her 15-month-old daughter, who brings joy to everyone around her. Four mornings a week, she wakes before dawn, catches the bus to daycare for a 6 am drop-off, and heads straight to her shift as a theatre assistant in nursing at a Sydney hospital, a demanding routine she embraces with determination and pride.

Her sights are firmly set on the future. Sienna is now working toward becoming a registered nurse, with dreams of one day qualifying as a midwife, the very same dream she shared with Burdekin when she was only 14 years old. She recently passed her driving test, is saving for a car, and continues working toward a stable, independent future for herself and her daughter.

“Housing stability has given Sienna the opportunity to focus on being a mother, building her career, and planning for the future,” says Burdekin Youth Service. “It has allowed her to create the kind of life every young person deserves the chance to build.”
