On 13 September, hundreds of cyclists, runners and walkers from the property and construction industry gathered in Terrey Hills to celebrate 15 years of Tour de PIF Sydney. Through the event, the industry raised an incredible $343,399 to support projects like the Property Industry Foundation’s flagship homeless youth building project in NSW – Haven House South Dowling.
It was the perfect weather to explore leafy Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park in Sydney’s North, as our enthusiastic teams and individuals took on a variety of cycling, running and walking options, including a new half marathon distance (See full photo album here). With courses to suit every level of fitness, this fun and challenging event was a chance to connect with colleagues and give back to young people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage. Cyclists tackled demanding hill climbs, while runners and walkers tested their endurance on well-supported road courses with gradual hills.
There were plenty of treats and surprises to keep our athletes motivated during the day. ISPT served up early morning coffee and pastries and weary participants were treated to massages after their race finish. Fun and engaging activations from Hyro, Cuore of Switzerland, Fodbods, FunDay Sweets, Mood Tea, and Homie kept everyone entertained in the Tour de PIF Event Village.
Stunning boutique hotel and function centre Miramare Gardens provided the perfect venue for a relaxed post event luncheon, with a delicious spread put on by their culinary team. Guests heard from a young person who turned their life around – sharing a personal story of what it’s like to endure housing instability and hardship. Hundreds of young people have a similar story of finding refuge in the safe and secure homes built by the Foundation, run by trusted frontline charities.
Thanks to former SBS TV cycling presenter and Tour de France expert Mike Tomalaris for providing commentary throughout the day and Sydney Swans legend Ryan O’Keefe for participating and speaking.
The main goal of the day was raising funds for the Foundation’s Haven House Project, including Haven House South Dowling, a 19-bed facility in Darlinghurst in partnership with the Salvation Army. The Salvos team will implement essential support programs and services, allowing vulnerable young people a chance to reestablish their lives and plan for the future.
There were so many Tour de PIF personal bests and winners, but a special mention to our amazing fundraising champions,
It takes a village to stage the Tour de PIF Sydney – a big thank you to the amazing volunteers on the day, our TDP Sydney Committee and our sponsors, especially those who came on board this year – Architectus, Aqualand, Texco, ISPT, GenUrban and the returning sponsors who continue to support us – GPT, Aliro, ADP, FDC and media and advertising sponsors – oOh!media and The Urban Developer.
“It is hard to put into words just how thankful myself and the entire Foundation team are for each and every person who attended Tour de PIF Sydney last Friday 13th September and who supported from afar. With your incredible support we smashed our goals and raised nearly $340,000 to help build an entire apartment for a young person in need. Thank you so much, our hearts are full”
