Getting to know the residents of our Haven Houses…

Not every young person has a straightforward path to recovery. Homeless and drifting around Melbourne’s city streets, Noah* found himself in a very bad place mentally and physically. Struggling with alcohol and drug addiction and complex mental health challenges, he’d fallen out of education and employment and was barely scraping by each day. Having relocated to the city, he had no support network to fall back on.

Noah found a safe space at Haven House Melbourne City – immediately accessing support from Melbourne City Mission’s (MCM) Frontyard Youth Services, who support homeless youth through case management, accommodation, community participation, health and wellbeing, and financial and legal services.

“Noah expressed gratitude for the safe and supportive environment that allowed him the time and space to identify and address the key areas in his life that were preventing long-term stability,”

Melbourne City Mission

The team at Haven House Melbourne City gave Noah consistent support and trauma-informed care over two years, which encouraged him to face his addiction and complete several detox and rehabilitation programs – critical steps in his journey towards stability.

As a result of his rehab, Noah wanted to reconnect with his estranged family in country Victoria. With the help of his Frontyard care team, Noah made an emotional return to his family home in Gippsland. His parents committed to supporting Noah’s sobriety and recovery so he could make a fresh start.
