An epic three-stage Workerbee for Act for Kids at the newly completed Moreton Centre in Queensland has provided a welcoming outdoor space for children and their families in the Caboolture and Moreton Bay region.

Act for Kids provides support services to children and families who have experienced or are at risk of harm. The centre will deliver vital clinical therapy programs, including speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychology and counselling services.

The first Workerbee deployed the expertise of the Saunders Havill Group, who provided all of the landscape design. “It’s been a rewarding experience for SHG to be involved with the transformation of the site in a short time, with the help of many willing volunteers,” says Glen Challenor, Senior Landscape Architect – SHG. “We had a modest budget, which required some careful planning with the Foundation team to use it effectively. Many weekend renovators will have dreamt of 40 people arriving to blitz their backyard! Making sure we were all heading in the same direction and planting the right way up was quite a challenge.  Hopefully we’ve helped Act For Kids to create a landscape that feels welcoming and green for their visitors and the community.”

Next, St Hilliers, ADG Engineers and RLB donned their gardening gloves to assist in the hands-on transformation. “My team and I had such a fantastic experience volunteering at the Act for Kids Worker Bee with the Property Industry Foundation,” says Ellie Jacobs – St Hilliers Marketing Manager. “It was great to get out of the office and spend the day in fresh air, working hard to support a really important cause. While we were a small piece in a much larger puzzle, it was great to roll up our sleeves and see the visible impact we’d made in bringing the new Act for Kid’s therapy clinic to life!”

A third and final Workerbee was supported by Apollo Property Group, Property Council Future Directions Committee, Design & Build, Auto & General and Real Support Services. “It was an amazing experience to have the opportunity to assist Act for Kids, an incredible organisation that helps those in need in the community,” says Flynn Stephenson – Apollo Property Group Contracts Administrator. “I’m grateful to the Property Industry Foundation for providing us with this platform to make a difference and create better facilities for our community. It was a truly fulfilling day, and I’m honoured to have been a part of it.”

This terrific trio of Workerbees put the finishing touches on a major refurbishment that saw our building partner Liebke Builders turn an unused veterinary clinic into therapy rooms for at-risk youth in the area. Find out more about this Haven Project here.
