Haven House Granville will provide medium-term housing and case management support to young people experiencing homeless who are engaged in education.  The goal is to expand support in accommodation with wrap-around support to vulnerable young people to ensure they reach their education goals.

Platform Youth Service (PYS) will be utilising the home to support young people aged 17-23 who have experienced homelessness to complete their Tertiary education. Education = employment = housing.

The case worker will ensure property is maintained and will facilitate living skills programs to boost young people’s life skills and independence. These programs are all embedded in Platforms programs and Platform has the resources to ensure every young person is involved.

The young people will contribute $125 a week which will cover accommodation, basic food, electricity and water. Young people will have access to brokerage to furnish their rooms, purchase educational resources, recreational and living skills supports. Platform will ensure rent and utilities are paid and the communal space is furnished and maintained (including outdoor areas).

A Solid Foundation in Granville for Youth in Need!

01

An exciting new project is underway at Haven House Granville in Western Sydney, with the initial structural build now complete. The four-bedroom home will be managed by our Charity Partner, Platform Youth Services, providing a welcoming living environment and case management support to homeless youth who are engaged in education.

Our Building Partners JTM Carpentry reports that Haven House Granville now has a solid and robust foundation.

“The initial structural phase of the build is now complete, along with external drainage works,”

“A key element of the initial phase involved underpinning the existing walls of the house in order to create a more stable and durable foundation, which will provide Haven House Granville with a great base and a robust footing long into the future.”

Recent flooding and heavy rain in Sydney didn’t stop the team from achieving their goal.

“Our initial groundworks, both inside and outside the house had been regularly hampered by the extensive wet weather in Sydney of late, so we are happy that we've now been able to conclude that section of the renovation.”

JTM Carpentry regularly nurtures new apprentices, giving them a great sense of fulfilment and pride, and supporting the Property Industry Foundation to extend that support to homeless youth was a natural next step.

“Getting on the tools to support youth out of homelessness was a logical development,”

“We believe that all young people deserve the same opportunity in life, regardless of their situation, and we are proud to provide Sydney’s homeless youth with a solid foundation to help develop themselves.”

The JTM Team

The Goodman Foundation donated $40,000 towards the renovation of Haven House Granville, and they are thrilled to see the house taking shape.

“We’re proud to support a new beginning for Haven House Granville, so it can provide the stable home these young people deserve,”

“By creating a warm and stable living environment, the residents of Haven House Granville will have the opportunity to focus on their education and gain the skills they need to set them up for work and life as independent adults. Together, the property and construction industry can make such a difference if we all come together to support homeless young people in their time of need.”

Jo Cameron, CEO The Goodman Foundation

Platform Youth Services are currently assessing young people in preparation for the program launch.

“We are very much looking forward to the door opening on Granville House,"

"For the young people who are unable to rely on family support in this critical developmental stage of their lives, the program will provide that time, personalised attention, mentoring, coaching and access to opportunities to fulfill independence and productive lives.”

Progress of this Historical Refurbishment

02

By April 2022, the team at Haven House Granville had completed the installation of the flooring frame as well as the under flooring ventilation system. In addition, the external structure work and all the underpinning was completed, as well as almost completing the brick work.

The house will soon be a home for young people in need. These young people will be accommodated for between 2-3 years in which they will be supported by Platform Youth Services to complete their tertiary education. Each young person will receive case management as well as both practical an emotional support to reach their goals. A Case Worker (coach) will be onsite 2-3 days a week or as necessary as well as be available when offsite.

Another Home for Homeless Youth is Nearly Complete

03

Haven House Granville is nearly finished. The roof was sheeted and the framing was about to be completed by the end of July 2022. The external kerb and windows have been repaired and restored, and the external wall vents were installed.

“Even though the previous wet weather has impacted the construction program, we are glad to see all the external works of the Haven House Granville have completed.

It is our honour to work together with the Property Industry Foundation and be part of this great program to assist young people on their path to independency. We look forward to the opening of the House.”

Making a house a home in Granville

05

MBM and Goodman teamed up to get the space ready for our young people. It was all hands on deck as the bedrooms and living area went into full assembly.

Beds, nightstands, tallboys, TV, couch and much more all got set up and the kitchen area received a influx of supplies to take a house in Granville and make it a home.

Special thanks to Coco Republic and King Living for providing furnishings to a space that will be a home for young Australians who need the quality and warmth these generous details provide.

Haven House Granville opens

06

Foundation supporters got to take time out of their morning to come together and celebrate another huge milestone in 2022 with the completion of Haven House Granville.

What started as a dilapidated humble house has been reborn into an open living space for four young people for now and for generations to come. The amazing work done by JTM Carpentry, combined with the generous support of Ausbao, Goodman and the countless others within the industry played a collective part in bringing this new space to life.
