Project Overview

This Haven Project was completed in two phases. Firstly, we focused on building two new bedrooms for young people and improving the carer spaces. Secondly, we renovated a range of communal spaces to improve the liveability of the house.

Phase 1 (2020-2022): The Foundation built two extra bedrooms and refurbished four more at Haven House Kingsford, so that St Laurence House Youth Services could take in more young people in need and also so the live-in carer, who had been sleeping on the couch, could finally have their own room with a new bathroom. Wyatt Partners took the lead as the main builder alongside significant support from the industry. ANZ and ISPT both donated $50k each. A list of other key suppliers is below.

Phase 2 (2023-2024): This phase focused on uplifting other key main living areas on the ground floor in the home. This included the fabrication & installation of a beautiful, & much more functional new kitchen, with brand new appliances throughout, as well as some needed repairs to the stairs & adjacent windows. We were also able to uplift the living room with new furniture donated by our good friends at King Living, with painting supplied by Dulux. Architectus provided the designs for the kitchen & AW Edwards came on board as the major building partner to support this phase of the project. Other key suppliers include Barnwell & Cambridge, Versatile, Light Project, GWA Bathrooms & Kitchens and Milliken.

St Laurence House Youth Services has been providing medium-term accommodation and assisting young people in the house since 1984. This includes providing stable housing for 13–18-year-olds leaving crisis care in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, as well as support programs for 18–24-year-olds experiencing homelessness who are not able to find other accommodation.
