An empty veterinary clinic is set to become a lifeline for young people in Moreton Bay. Through Project Peppercorn, the Property Industry Foundation is partnering with Act for Kids, the Caboolture Sports Club, Auto & General Insurance and Liebke Builders to transform the long-vacant site into Haven House Moreton Bay, a purpose-built space for Act for Kids’ youth services. With a peppercorn lease secured and a pro bono team of architects, planners, engineers and consultants donating their expertise to prepare the DA, the project is now progressing through Moreton Bay Regional Council. Construction is officially underway on a vital new youth services facility in Moreton Bay. Queensland Police and Corrective Services Minister Hon. Mark Ryan MP joined the Property Industry Foundation, Act for Kids, Liebke Builders and Budget Direct powered by Auto & General for a sod turning ceremony marking the milestone. Once complete, the former vet clinic in Morayfield will house three therapy rooms offering speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychology, counselling and action-based intervention, giving hundreds of at-risk children and young people in the Morayfield-Caboolture region, one of Queensland’s most vulnerable, access to trauma-informed support they urgently need. A once-abandoned vet clinic is nearing its final transformation into a lifeline for vulnerable young people in Moreton Bay. Three epic Workerbee days have brought the finishing touches to the newly completed Moreton Centre, giving Act for Kids a welcoming outdoor space to match its vital therapy services. From Saunders Havill Group’s landscape design, to St Hilliers, ADG Engineers and RLB rolling up their sleeves for the hands-on transformation, to a final push from Apollo Property Group, Property Council Future Directions Committee, Design & Build, Auto & General and Real Support Services, dozens of volunteers came together to turn a once-unused veterinary clinic into a green, inviting space for children and families in the Caboolture and Moreton Bay region. The Act for Kids Moreton Centre has officially opened its doors, marking the culmination of a remarkable community collaboration to support vulnerable young people in the region. Launched on 6 June 2023, the once-abandoned vet clinic has been transformed into a purpose-built, evidence-based therapy facility, made possible through a peppercorn lease from the Caboolture Sports Club and the combined efforts of the Property Industry Foundation, Act for Kids, Auto & General, Liebke Builders, JLL and a host of generous industry suppliers. With the Moreton-Caboolture region facing some of the highest rates of childhood vulnerability in Australia, the centre offers a genuine safe haven for children and families to access the trauma-informed care they need.
